Pianist/vocalist Steve Sandner's first studio recording (1989) was recorded live with some of Chicago's best-known jazz players. Tenor sax player Lin Halliday comes from a be-bop tradition, and he told stories of his days hanging out in New York with Charlie Parker and being roommates with pianist Al Haig. Marshall Thompson was the house drummer at Chicago's London House, and also played with Duke Ellington and many other jazz luminaries. Dennis Carroll played with top-tier Chicago musicians, jazz recording sessions, and often with visiting jazz stars at the Jazz Showcase.
